The Clubhouse Results - Week 1
PACWEST golf opened this past weekend
The PACWEST golf season opened over the weekend with a field of 37 men and eight women representing six PACWEST schools.
On the men’s leaderboard a couple of familiar faces appear. Jacob Vanderpas (pictured) of the Langara Falcons and James Casorso of the UBC Okanagan Heat are 1-2 and four strokes apart following the weekend. Both were named CCAA All-Canadians last year.
Vanderpas shot a 75 on day one before crushing the course on Sunday with an incredible 61, seven strokes better than the next competitor. His combined score gave him a 136 and the tournament win.
As for Casorso he shot a 72 on Saturday, before nailing a 68 on Sunday for a weekend score of 140.
Interestingly enough neither golfer was the leader after the first day. That belonged to Oliver Rizun of the Heat who shot a 67 on Saturday, the only shooter to stay under 70. Sunday’s round wasn’t as kind for the Squamish native as he shot a 74, tying him for third spot.
The Heat captured the team results shooting a 572 on their home course, while the UFV Cascades shot a 579 and the Camosun Chargers checked in with a 598.
On the women’s side the UFV Cascades picked up where they left off last season winning the team results shooting a 319, 28 strokes better than the second place UBC Okanagan Heat who shot 347.
A pair of Cascades owned the top of the leader on both days of the tournament. Rookie Emery Bardock opened the tournament with a 77, then shot a 78 on Sunday for a weekend total of 155 to clinch the tournament title. All-Canadian Hannah Dirksen was in the hunt as well and finished second, shooting an 85 on day one and a 79 on day two for a 164 total.
The best Heat player this past weekend was McKenna Lesiuk who finished third shooting rounds of 86 and 85.
The VIU Mariners have an official women’s team this season with three golfers. Topping their team this weekend was rookie Victoria Ross who shot a 189.
This coming weekend PACWEST golf tees off at Morningstar Golf Course on the island hosted by the Mariners.
