The Langara Falcons women’s and men’s teams have retooled this offseason and are ready to compete when the campaign opens in a couple of weeks. But who will make the Falcons fly in 2017 and make an impact?
On the women’s side new head coach Rachael Pelat wants her team to have an immediate impact after the Falcons heartbreaking loss in the semis last year. She has brought in a number of players that have the ability and skill to do exactly that.
That said she is looking to Carly Dhanda who will be invaluable. Pelat says, “She is a new recruit coming to Langara from the Fusion 99's. Her work rate in the midfield, determination/desire to win the ball and distribute, as well as her vision and ability to see the field are going to make a huge impact for our team this year. Not to mention, watching her - she clearly loves the game, and has the motivation to be that player.”
On the men’s side the Falcons are trying to right the ship after missing the provincial championships last season with a 1-9-2 record.
Head coach Marc Rizzardo has a young team with a “sprinkling” of veterans, but will look to first year student athlete Merlin Fisk to be their “impact” player. He is a proven goal scorer and will draw a lot of attention from the opposition would should open up other players and make the Falcons dangerous.
The Falcons open the new PACWEST season on Wednesday September 6th when they host the Douglas Royals.
