The PACWEST is pleased to announce the basketball Athletes of the Week following the opening weekend of the PACWEST season.
Female Basketball Athlete of the Week
Rachel Beauchamp - Douglas Royals
In the first week of the season, last year’s PACWEST Player of the Year Rachel Beauchamp started right where she left off, with back to back double/doubles. In a hard-fought losing effort on Friday night, she scored 27 points and secured 22 rebounds. Then on Saturday, although being consistently double teamed on offence, she led the team with 10 points and 13 rebounds. She was also a huge presence on defense with five blocked shots and four steals. Even more impressive than the double/double was the fact 46% of her rebounds were at the offensive end, and she generated almost half of her points from her efforts on the offensive glass.
Male Basketball Athlete of the Week
Harry Fayle - VIU Mariners
Fayle had a breakout weekend as the Mariners began their conference play. In Thursday's 94-87 win over the Camosun College Chargers, he led the way with 25 Points (9-16 Shooting) and collected five rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Saturday the Mariners took on the Okanagan College Coyotes and Fayle finished the game with 35 Points (12-21 Shooting) four rebounds and six assists. In all over the weekend he tallied 60 points, nine rebounds and 13 assists.
