A Golden Match
The top two teams in the PACWEST battle for a Conference title
#2 Douglas Royals @ #1 VIU Mariners – Saturday February 26, 5:30pm | WATCH HERE
For the first time since 2019 the Mariners and Royals will face one another in the PACWEST gold medal match. As a matter of fact, they met in three straight seasons from 2017-2019 in the title match, the Mariners winning two of those meetings. The gold medal the Royals won in 2018 was the last time the Mariners lost a playoff match.
Each team won their respected semi-final via a sweep on Friday, and each have punched their ticket to the CCAA national championship in PEI next month as the PACWEST will send a champion and a wildcard. The Mariners swept the Capilano Blues and the Royals took care of the Camosun Chargers.
They are two very evenly matched teams that met three times during the regular season. Twice they played in a fifth set and the other was a four-set Mariners victory. They split a pair of five-set wins, each winning on their home floor.
