Royals Will Play For Gold
The Royals beat the Chargers 3-1 in the semi-finals
The defending PACWEST champion Douglas Royals will try and defend their title in the gold medal match after a four set victory over the third seeded Camosun Chargers on Friday. With the win the Royals have also qualified for the CCAA National championship.
The Royals took advantage of 16 Chargers’ service errors and had a very balanced offence in their victory.
Caet McCorkell led the champs with 11 kills and Emma Schill was all over the floor and collected 10 kills. Vania Oliveira chipped in with seven kills and 13 digs. Setter Abby Mitro who played the final three sets was named the Player of the Match with 22 assists.
The Royals were outstanding at the net. Olivia Cesaretti had five blocks while Oliveira and Kendra Potskin each had three.
The Chargers will play for PACWEST bronze on Saturday. They took the first set 25-18, but couldn’t solve the Royals the rest of the way. Megan Ireland was named Player of the Match with 10 kills. Sydney Svicenec collected eight kills but left with a hand injury late in the match. Mike Yamada also had eight kills.
The Royals will play either the VIU Mariners or Capilano Blues in tomorrow’s gold medal match. The loser will play the Chargers for bronze.
