The Camosun Chargers will move to the semi-final at the volleyball championship

The Camosun Chargers opened the PACWEST volleyball championships with a decisive victory on Thursday afternoon, defeating the College of the Rockies Avalanche in three sets.
In the first men’s quarter-final of the day, the No. 3-seeded Chargers knocked off the No. 6 Avalanche by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 27-25. They advance to face the No. 2 Capilano Blues in the semifinals at 3 p.m. Friday at the Envision Financial Athletic Centre on the University of the Fraser Valley’s Abbotsford campus.
Camosun rolled to victory in the first two sets, but the Avalanche found some traction in the third, reeling off a four-point run midway through to go ahead 18-16. After the Chargers surged ahead 23-21, COTR had a response, going on another 4-0 run to take a 24-23 lead. Camosun, though, fended off two set points and clawed out a 27-25 triumph to seal the win.
The Chargers’ player of the match was Eduardo Bida, who racked up 12 kills, four aces and five digs. Fellow left side Matt Bowers also had a big game with 11 kills, five aces and 12 digs, and right side Rian Plante contributed five kills, one block and 12 digs.
The Avalanche got six kills from towering 6’8” middle Breno Fabbri, and COTR’s player of the match Julio Lins notched five kills. Zach James had a team-high nine digs.
