The Bearcats Are Back
The CBC Bearcats return to the PACWEST post season
For the first time since the 2014 PACWEST championship, the CBC Bearcats women’s team will participate. They have missed the last three championship tournaments including the 2016 finals on their home floor.
They are hoping to snap a two match playoff losing streak. In 2014 they fell in five-sets to the Camosun Chargers in the quarterfinals. In 2013 they lost in the gold medal match to the UFV Cascades to capture silver. Oddly enough it’s the Cascades that will host the tournament this season.
"It’s been a long road back,” says head coach Duncan Harrison. “Without question the improvements have included contributions from everyone. But there is no doubt that the year Jodi (Enns) is having has been the catalyst. I am excited for the whole team but the reality is that Jodi is the only one who really understands what we have been missing because she is the only one who was on the last playoff team. It means a ton to our entire community to be back. We can’t wait for next Thursday and are excited to finish the regular season with our annual home and home with UFV.”
All season long the Bearcats have been led by fifth year senior Jodi Enns who is looking forward to the opportunity to make some noise in the playoffs.
Enns says, “After many years of hoping and working hard and not making the post season, it is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling to have our team make it in my final year. This season has made our team incredibly close and so it’s exciting entering our final games very unified and motivated.”
Regardless of the regular season finale this weekend the Bearcats will finish fifth and will play in a quarterfinal on Thursday February 22nd. They will face the fourth seed which will either be the Capilano Blues or the host and their cross town rivals, the Cascades.
This weekend the Bearcats and Cascades will play in a home and home to conclude the regular season finale. Friday night they will play at 6:00pm at UFV, then Saturday at CBC at 5:00pm
