The Mariners And Royals Fight For Gold
They are the top two seeded teams in the tournament
The top two teams in the PACWEST will battle for a gold medal on Saturday night at 6:00pm as the top ranked and host VIU Mariners face the second seeded Douglas College Royals.
On Friday night the Mariners swept the COTR Avalanche in three straight, avenging their gold medal loss last year to the Avalanche.
Earlier in the day the Royals played a five-set thriller coming back to beat the Capilano Blues to earn the right to play for the PACWEST gold.
The last time these two schools met in the title match was in 2001, when the Mariners were known as Malaspina University College. In a hard fought match the Mariners earned the PACWEST gold medal. As a matter of fact they would go onto win three more gold medals to make it six straight and won eight in nine seasons.
The last time the Royals won gold was in 1995 when they beat the Mariners.
