The second women’s semi-final featured a rematch of last year’s PACWEST gold medal match as the top seeded VIU Mariners faced the defending champion COTR Avalanche.
It’s a match-up the Mariners had been looking forward to all season and they made no mistake taking out the Avalanche in a three-set sweep. Once the Mariners jumped out 7-3 in the first set, they never looked back. They took the match 25-22, 25-16 and 25-12.
First Team All-Star Mikayla Wagner led the way with 19 kills, while Kelsey Hutt scored 16 digs and Amanda Dobbyn collected five blocks.
The Mariners will play for PACWEST gold tomorrow night at 6:00pm when they take on the second seeded Douglas College Royals. The winner will head to Victoria on March 8th and play for the CCAA National gold at Camosun College.
The Avalanche will face the Capilano Blues for the PACWEST bronze medal at 1:00pm on Saturday.
