Mariners Punch Ticket To Semi
The third seeded Mariners win in four sets and move on at the Provincials
The VIU Mariners men’s team punched their ticket to the Provincial Semi-Final with a four set victory over the Capilano Blues.
The Mariners will now face the #2 seeded Douglas Royals in Friday’s semi-finals after winning 25-19, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-18.
The best Mariner on the floor was the PACWEST Player of the Year Jesse Bazergui who collected 17 kills, five aces, 11 digs and a pair of blocks. Braydon Brouwer was also very good with 15 kills and five digs, but left in the fourth set with an apparent ankle injury.
Ryan Marcellus conducted the offence of the Mariners and was named Player of the Match.
As for the Blues, they showed great heart and fight coming in as the underdog, sixth seed. Brenden Cairns was outstanding collecting 22 kills while John De la Cruz and Remi Klander were offensive factors recording 14 and 12 kills respectively.
Matthew Graham was named the Blues Player of the Match after playing solid defence as the team’s setter and libero.
