The Mariners and Royals will battle for PACWEST gold on Sunday afternoon with the winner representing the Conference at the CCAA National Championship tournament.
The Mariners received the bye into this championship game after finishing first in the standings. The Royals meanwhile had to get past the defending PACWEST champion Capilano Blues with an incredible 1-0 win in extra time on Saturday afternoon. Morgann Price buried a beautiful pass from Alicia Skirzyk into an open net to send the Royals to the gold medal game. Meanwhile Elisha Machado made four saves for the shutout.
The Royals now face a Mariners team that beat them twice in four meetings during the regular season and outscored them 8-4. Oddly enough their last meeting ended in a 0-0 draw.
In the seasonal series Saki Meshida scored three of the Mariners eight goals and Shea Battie scored twice. The Royals were led by Christine Singh who also scored three goals in the series.
The Mariners come into the title game winning two in a row and haven’t given up a goal in their last three games. Keeper Melanie Osborne has been in goal for all three of those and is expected to play on Sunday. Prior to Saturday’s semi-final win the Royals hadn’t won in four straight.
The winner of this contest will punch their ticket to Saint-Lambert, Quebec and the CCAA national championship tournament November 9-12th.
