The Capilano Blues face the Langara Falcons in Saturday's PACWEST gold medal game
Do the Langara Falcons have enough flight left in the tank heading into the PACWEST gold medal game on Saturday?
The Falcons won a thrilling semi-final on Friday beating the defending PACWEST champion Douglas Royals in penalty kicks after giving up a goal late in extra time. Keeper Kevin Monk was impressive stopping three penalty kick attempts and was named the Player of the Game.
They are appearing in the PACWEST gold medal game for the first time since winning it in 2001.
The Falcons will face the top seeded Capilano Blues who received a bye into this championship game. They are back in this game for the first time since 2016.
During the regular season they met four times with the Blues recording a 2-1-1 record. Both wins by the Blues were courtesy of a shutout by Hudson Nelles. Jeremy Monn-Djasngar led all scorers with four goals in the seasonal series while Keith Jackson tallied three.
Offensively the Blues generated 38 shots in the four games at Falcons’ keeper Kevin Monk.
On the flip side the Falcons offence was led by the PACWEST Rookie of the Year Emmanuel Ekeh against the Blues. He scored three goals including a pair in their 4-1 victory on October 4th.
The last time these two met in the playoffs was in 2011 when the Blues won 1-0 in a quarterfinal.
Regardless of the outcome, both teams will represent the PACWEST at the men’s CCAA national championship tournament on Prince Edward Island November 6-10th.
