The Blues Face The Royals
This will be a dandy as the Royals meet the Blues in the PACWEST semi-final
Friday afternoon the women’s bracket of the 2018 PACWEST soccer championship will open when the second seeded Douglas Royals face the third seeded Capilano Blues at 12:00pm.
This will be the fifth meeting of the season between these two schools. The Royals hold a 2-1-1 advantage during the regular season. As a matter of fact the Royals two wins have come in their last two meetings via the shutout.
Alexa Gazzola has slammed the door the last two games making a total of six saves to record back to back shutouts. The Blues have not scored on Gazzola since September 22nd when Claire Ye scored in the 83rd minute and the Blues went onto win 1-0.
During the regular season the Royals outscored the Blues 7-4. Mikayla Hamilton and Sam Kell each scored twice for the Royals while Catrina Olstrom scored twice for the Blues.
The last time these two met in the playoffs was just last year in the PACWEST gold medal game. The Royals won 3-2 in penalty kicks and the Blues will be looking for some payback.
The winner will face the top seeded VIU Mariners in Saturday’s gold medal game. If the Royals win then both the Mariners and Royals will punch their ticket to the national championship tournament.
The Royals will try and use the PACWEST championship tournament as a pre-cursor to the CCAA national championship which they will host November 6-10th.
