Friday afternoon at 2:30pm the men’s bracket at the 2018 PACWEST soccer championship will open when the second seeded Douglas Royals face the third seeded Langara Falcons.
On paper this should be an easier contest for the Royals who outscored the Falcons 17-2 in their four meetings and swept the season series. These two schools met in the regular season finale just six days ago with the Royals earning an 8-0.
During the season Tomi Fagbongbe led his club with four goals while Race Williams scored three times.
The Falcons offence has struggled in this series scoring just twice. Both Merlin Fisk and Taku Ota scored for the Falcons.
The last time these two schools met in the playoffs was October 27, 2013 when the Royals shutout of the Falcons 2-0.
The winner will face the Capilano Blues in Saturday’s gold medal game. The winner also will punch their ticket to the CCAA national championship on Prince Edward Island as the PACWEST has two berths at this year’s tournament. The gold medal game against the Blues is set for 2:30pm on Saturday at the Burnaby Sports Complex.
