The Capilano Blues opened the 2017 PACWEST soccer championship with a 1-0 shutout victory over the Langara Falcons and will now play for gold.
Catrina Olstrom scored the lone marker in the 44th minute on a broken play which turned out to be just enough for the victory.
Defensively the Blues were solid limiting the Falcons chances who fall in the PACWEST semi-final for the second straight season.
Keeper Nikki Gerbrandt made two saves to earn the shutout and Olstrom was named the Player of the Game.
The Blues will now wait for their gold medal opponent as the Douglas Royals and VIU Mariners will kick off at 8:00pm tonight for the right to play for the PACWEST title. The women’s gold medal game is scheduled for 7:00pm on Saturday night.
