The PACWEST soccer championship kicks off when the Capilano Blues face the Langara Falcons
#2 Capilano Blues vs. #3 Langara Falcons - Friday October 27, 5:00pm | WATCH HERE
It’s funny how things sometimes unfold. Last year on the women’s bracket in the PACWEST soccer championship the VIU Mariners beat the Douglas Royals in the gold medal game and in the bronze the Capilano Blues defeated the Langara Falcons.
Fast forward one year and the same match-ups will kick off the PACWEST championships this coming Friday as semi-finals.
The first game of the tournament pits the #2 Blues facing the #3 Falcons at 5:00pm.
They met three times during the regular season. The first two games ended in a tie with the third one just nine minutes away from the same fate. That is until Brooklyn Doucette scored in the 81st minute giving the Blues a 1-0 victory.
Head to head these teams are very similar with only two points separating them in the standings. The Blues scored 21 goals while the Falcons tallied 16.
In their last 10 games both teams finished 4-3-3. Adrianna Babinski led the Blues offence with seven goals overall and two against the Falcons who countered with Giulia Repole who scored five overall and two against the Blues.
The Falcons won three of four down the stretch allowing just two goals and head coach Rae Pelat has been pleased in her rookie season at the helm, “First of all, I’m very proud of this team for having worked so hard to earn the position they have heading into the tournament. They are a young group and I’m looking forward to this team gaining the experience of a collegiate provincial championship. The more experienced teams will come prepared to play hard, and it will be important for us as a young group to respond to that challenge. I’m confident the team will leave the field both days feeling proud of themselves and their performances.”
Last year was the first playoff meeting between the Blues and Falcons in recent memory. This Friday afternoon will make it two in a row at 5:00pm.
