Make It Two Straight
The Capilano Blues win their second straight PACWEST gold medal
The Capilano Blues won their second straight PACWEST gold medal after a 4-2 victory over the Douglas College Royals on Saturday night.
The Blues opened the scoring early when Edris Najm scored his second of the tournament in the second minute. All-Star Keith Jackson extended the lead by a pair with a goal in the 25th minute, followed by Kristian Yi-Hietanan’s goal just three minutes later.
The Royals found their legs after a red card was issued in the second half when they were down to 10 men. In the 73rd minute Devon Jones scored his first of the tournament to get the Royals on the board. Then just three minutes later Rajan Purewal cut the Blues lead to one with his first of the Championships.
However the Blues restored their two goal lead in the 78th minute, when Jackson scored his second of the game.
The Blues will now head to the CCAA National Championships hosted in Fort McMurray in early November as the PACWEST champs. The Royals will attend as well as a wildcard.
