The Blues Win Bronze
The Capilano Blues are heading home with bronze in the women’s PACWEST Provincial Soccer Championship
The Capilano Blues are heading home with bronze in the women’s PACWEST Provincial Soccer Championship after defeating the Langara Falcons by a score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Blues needed penalty kicks to get the decision after a hard-fought 90 minutes.
It was a possession battle early, but the Blues capitalized on a Falcons’ giveaway and took the lead in the 39th minute. Taylor Einhorn drove home the game’s first goal, and her second in as many matches.
Trailing after the half, the Falcons came out hard and responded in a big way. Giulia Repole got her team back into the game with the equalizer in the 60th minute.
It was a back and forth defensive battle after that, eventually needing penalties to break the tie. The Falcons led off with Alessia Mastromanacao, who looked like she had beaten the goaltender, but couldn’t get the ball under the crossbar. That set up Dominika Paige who made no mistake, pushing the ball overtop of the diving netminder, scoring for the Blues and giving her team the victory.
The game’s first goal-scorer, midfielder Taylor Einhorn was named the player of the game.
The Blues’ bronze medal is their first provincial hardware since they won gold in 2007.
