Bronze Medal Battle
The Langara Falcons meet the Capilano Blues for bronze
#3 Langara Falcons vs. #5 Capilano Blues – Saturday March 2, 3:00pm | WATCH HERE
Saturday afternoon the Falcons and Blues will go head-to-head for PACWEST bronze in their final game of the season. Both teams fell in their semifinal bid on Friday and will now look to win their last game of the year. Interestingly, these two schools opened their schedules against each other back in October and now will close the year meeting again.
For the Falcons they dropped a close 79-57 game to the Camosun Chargers shooting 38% from the field. The game was a lot closer than the score indicates. They ran out of gas at the end of the ballgame after a high energy win the night before in their quarterfinal. They are back in the bronze medal game for the third straight year and looking to win their second medal in three years.
They will no doubt be playing for a pair of “super seniors” in Royce Sargeant and Moeiz Athaya who will suit up for the final time after a wonderful PACWEST career. Athaya is the Conference’s All-Time leading scorer and Sargeant has been a dynamic player since joining the Falcons.
The Blues on the other hand dropped a very hard-fought defensive battle against the VIU Mariners on Friday night. It will be a quick turnaround for them as they prepare to face the Falcons, in their first bronze medal game since 2019 when they lost to Camosun. Their last bronze medal win was in 2011.
They are still a young team overall and are gaining valuable experience looking ahead to next season.
During the seasonal series they met four times with the Blues winning three of them. The lone Falcons win was on October 21st by four points.
