Blues & Mariners For Gold
The top two teams in the PACWEST will battle for the Conference title on Saturday with plenty on the line

The entire PACWEST season seemed to be heading for this match-up for gold as the Blues and Mariners will duke it out.
They met three times during the regular season with the Blues winning twice with one game needing overtime. They last met a month ago at Capilano with the Blues winning the first game in the extra session 85-75 before the Mariners struck victory the next day 68-52.
The big story will be down low. Harriette Mackenzie was dominating in yesterday’s 67-44 semi-final win over Camosun as she dropped a game high 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. She will match-up with fifth year senior Meagan Briggs who was solid in their 60-49 semi-final win over the Douglas Royals when she tallied 11 points and 14 rebounds. Briggs will get some help down low as Ida Jonsson-Ojala and Madeleine Coffin will be asked to assist on Mackenzie in what should be a very physical match-up.
These two programs have plenty of recent history in this gold medal game facing each other in 2019 and 2020 in which the Mariners won both times. The Blues won the gold in 2018 but didn’t face the Mariners. As a matter of fact, they have met four times in this title game over the years with the Mariners winning each time. The winner today will represent the PACWEST at the national championship in Hamilton Ontario in two weeks at Mohawk College.
