Chargers Survive and Advance
The Camosun Chargers beat the Langara Falcons in a PACWEST quarterfinal and advance
The Camosun Chargers survive a quarterfinal scare and advance to the semis with a 59-49 victory over the sixth seeded Langara Falcons.
It was not a very smooth offensive game for both teams as the Chargers shot 29% and 22% from behind the three-point line. Chelsea Espenberg finished with a game high 17 points thanks in large part to five-three pointers and was named the Player of the Game. Rhiannon Ware was good from the free-throw line going 8-8 and tallied 14 points while playing solid defence.
In all, the teams combined to commit 53 turnovers in what seemed to be a sloppy game with players rushing to try and make something happen for their club.
The Falcons held a one-point lead at halftime but went ice cold in the second half scoring just 19 points. They were led by Claire Huang’s 14 points and Davian Tsang and Nadia Singh who each dropped in 11 points. Huang was also named the Falcons’ Player of the Game.
The Chargers advance to a semi-final where they will face the VIU Mariners, with a berth in the gold medal game on the line. The Falcons season finishes with a 10-point loss.
