The OC Coyotes upset the top team in the country to win a PACWEST gold medal
For the first time in school history the Okanagan Coyotes are PACWEST gold medalists after an upset win over the VIU Mariners 79-74 on Saturday night.
The Coyotes used an excellent defence and rebounding on route to the victory. On the offensive side Jordan Kemper led all scorers with 20 points on seven of 15 shooting and Devon Felt came off the bench to knockdown four-three pointers and finished with 17 points. As a team they shot 38.8% from the field and an incredible 48.4% from behind the three-point line and will head to the CCAA national championship as the PACWEST champion at the end of March.
For the Mariners they will finish with a PACWEST silver after shooting 31.4% led by the Player of the Year Amber Lease and her 19 points. Shayce Johnston was outstanding with 16 points and nine rebounds while Ranika Guyton added 12. The Mariners will be the host seed at the CCAA national championship at the end of March with a chance to rebound after Saturday’s loss to the Coyotes.
