For the first time in 10 years the Douglas Royals are PACWEST champs
For the first time in 10 years the Douglas Royals are PACWEST champs with a 76-59 victory over the top seeded VIU Mariners.
Defensive was the name of the game for the Royals holding the high flying Mariners offence to 32% from the field and 12% from behind the arch.
Offensively the Royals shot 43% and were led by tournament MVP Grant Campbell. He scored 24 points, collected four rebounds, had five assists and four steals. He was also named the player of the game. Reese Morris was another huge factor playing the majority of the game with three fouls he dropped in 17 points and tallied eight rebounds. Noah DeRappard-Yuswack had 11 rebounds.
The Royals were also outstanding from behind the arch shooting 34% led by Ethan McKean’s three and Paul Getz and Campbell each drained a pair.
Only two players managed to score for the Mariners in the entire second half. Usama Zaid was named player of the game with 23 points and seven rebounds while Bryson Cox gathered 12 points. Jerod Dorby did all his scoring in the first half and knocked down 13 points.
The Royals will now represent the PACWEST at the CCAA National Championship hosted by Nomades de Montmorency in Quebec March 13-17.
