The VIU Mariners beat the Quest Kermodes 57-47 to move onto the semis
The VIU Mariners punched their ticket the semi-final at the PACWEST basketball championship in front of the hometown faithful. They clipped the Quest Kermodes 57-47 to move on.
The Mariners shot 33% from the field and saw Danielle Vanbergen catch fire from downtown hitting for of nine shots, finished with 15 points and was named player of the game. Emma Platner quarterbacked the offence and was outstanding with 14 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Emily Clarke chipped in with nine points and 11 rebounds.
The Kermodes season and women’s program comes to an end in the loss. Kimmy Aburegeba knocked down 15 points and both Kyra Boulding and Martina Mason scored seven points each. As a team they shot 25% from the field. Eliska Vavrova was named the player of the game with six points.
The Mariners will now face the Capilano Blues in Friday’s semi-final at 1:00pm.
