Chargers Win a Thriller
The Camosun Chargers punch their ticket to the semis
The PACWEST basketball championships saved the most exciting game for last as the Camosun Chargers hung on for a 71-69 victory over the Capilano Blues.
It was a back and forth contest with the Chargers shooting 38% from the field led by Mathew Hampton and his 20 points and 11 rebounds. He also hit a pair of massive free throws in the final minute to help seal the deal. Matthew Gray added 17 points while Shaquille Maharaj dropped in 11 despite sitting on the bench for the majority of the game with foul trouble. Riley Botting was large on the boards with 12 rebounds. Hampton was named the player of the game.
The Blues shot 37% from the field led by first team all-star Denver Sparks-Guest and his game high 24 points, 20 of which came in the second half. CJ Campbell was strong off the bench with 15 points while Wowie Untalan dropped in 11. Sparks-Guest was named the player of the game after adding 11 rebounds and came just inches away from tying the game in the dying seconds.
The Chargers live to fight another day and will face the VIU Mariners on Friday at 8:00pm in a PACWEST semi-final.
