The Capilano Blues flexed their first place muscle and dominated the Camosun Chargers from the start cruising to a 76-37 victory and will now play for a PACWEST gold medal.
The Blues’ defence was suffocating holding the Chargers to 18% shooting and just six and eight points in the second and fourth quarters respectively. They also forced 21 Charger turnovers and came up with 10 steals.
Offensively the Blues had three players hit double-digits led by Brittany Wertman’s 18 points. Carmelle M’Bikata was named player of the game with 16 points, 10 boards, two blocks and 2 steals. Ashley De La Cruz Yip directed the offence and scored 12 points and had four assists.
The Chargers’ Kathryn Candell was held in check for most of the game but did finish with a team high nine points. Mia Roberts chipped with eight.
The Blues will now face the Douglas College Royals in Saturday’s gold medal game at 6:00pm, while the Chargers will meet the VIU Mariners for PACWEST bronze at 1:00pm.
