Women's Gold Medal Preview
The Capilano Blues will face the Douglas College Royals for PACWEST gold
The PACWEST women’s gold medal game will be a battle of the regular season’s top two teams as the Capilano Blues face the Douglas College Royals at 5:30pm on the campus of Quest University.
The Blues dominated the Camosun Chargers in yesterday’s semi-final collecting the most lopsided victory in the PACWEST championship tournament 76-37 shooting 38.9% from the field. Three players scored double-digits led by the 18 from Brittany Wertman coming off the bench. Carmelle M’Bikata was named the player of game after a monster game of 16 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and a pair of steals.
Their defence was suffocating holding the Chargers to 18% shooting from the field.
The Royals on the other hand ended the VIU Mariners hope of a repeat with a 56-43 win shooting 32%. Rachel Beauchamp was named the player of game with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Ellen Fallis chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.
All three meetings of the regular season were very close with an average margin of just seven points. The Blues won two of the three games shooting 36% led by M’Bikata averaging 13 a game an Sherrie Errico dropping in 10.6. The Royals shot 38% in the series led by Rachel Beauchamp and her 16.6 points a game.
It’s fitting that these two schools close out the PACWEST basketball season after opening the campaign at Capilano back in October.
