The VIU Mariners are PACWEST bronze medalists after a 79-57 victory over the Camosun Chargers on Saturday afternoon.

The Mariners used the three-pointer to perfection shooting 46% from behind the arch and scored 36 points.  Celina Guadagni connected on five-three pointers while Sienna Pollard and Kaitlyn Lafontaine sank three.

Pollard however was too much for the Chargers to handle scoring a game high 23 points, tallied 10 rebounds, three steals and three assists.  She was named player of the game, in her final PACWEST contest.

The Mariner offence was well balanced all day.  Guadagni finished with 19 points and Lafontaine collected 17.  Victoria Brown also had a strong game with six points but a game high 11 rebounds.  As a team they shot 41.8% from the field.

The Chargers gave a solid effort but just didn’t have the weapons to keep pace and they didn’t have an answer for the three point attack of the Mariners.   Jasmine Montgomery-Reid finished with 17 points, hitting five-three pointers.

It’s the second time in three seasons the Mariners defeat their island rival in the PACWEST bronze medal.

Congratulations to both teams.
