Blues Battle Chargers In Semis
The top ranked Capilano Blues will see the Camosun Chargers in today's semi-final
The second women’s semi-final on Friday is set for today at 6:00pm when the top seeded Capilano Blues face the #4 seeded Camosun Chargers.
The Blues earned a first round bye after finishing 16-2 during the campaign. Offensively they have been very balanced shooting 38.4% from the field and 30% from the three point line. They have three players that averaged a double-digits led by PACWEST Player of the Year Carmelle M’Bikata and her 15.8 points a game. Second team All-Stars Sherrie Errico has had a break out year averaging 13.3 points and Ashley De La Cruz Yip leads the PACWEST with over five assists a game.
One of the two Blues losses this season came to the Chargers, who blasted them 95-78 in their last meeting, just three weeks ago.
The Chargers earned a berth in the semi after an exciting quarterfinal win over the host Quest Kermodes. At one point the Chargers opened up a 34 point lead, but took their foot off the gas and almost gave up the lead. Kathryn Candell was named the Player of the Game after a game high 27 points and Tessa Lannon-Paakspuu dropped in 15 points, 13 of which from the free-throw line.
During the regular season series the Blues shot 39.6% while the Chargers shot 35%. Errico led the Blues averaging 15.6 a game and Candell was the top offensive threat for the Chargers dropping 15.6 a game.
The winner will play for PACWEST gold tomorrow.
