The PACWEST championship has its first upset as the third seeded Capilano Blues hold off the high flying second seeded Langara Falcons for a 68-63 victory to punch their ticket to the men’s gold medal game.

The Blues defence was stifling holding down the Conference’s top scoring offence to 20 points under their regular season average.   They also created 18 Falcon turnovers and countless mental errors because of “all heart” says player of the game Greet Gill.  The Blues All-Star had a game high three steals.

Offensively the Blues shot 34% from the field and saw Gill drop 11 points and tally 12 rebounds.  Hassan Phills was the spark plug for the second straight game scoring a team 15 points while Chris Loreth dropped 12.  The Blues got huge production from their bench to the tune of 31 points, compared to the Falcons 18.

Gary Minhas led the Falcons with a game high 18 points, including 10 in the third quarter.   Ravi Basra finished with 16 points on 6 of 14 shooting.

The Blues will now play for PACWEST gold on Saturday night against the winner of the second men’s semi-final between the VIU Mariners and Douglas College Royals which tips off at 8:00pm tonight.

The Falcons will try and bounce back and play for PACWEST bronze at 3:00pm on Saturday.
